WHAT IS MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY?

Myofunctional Therapy are specific and customized exercises that help to treat Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMD’s). Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders are disorders of the muscles and functions of the face and mouth. OMDs may affect, directly and/or indirectly, breastfeeding, facial skeletal growth and development, chewing, swallowing, speech, occlusion, temporomandibular joint movement, oral hygiene, stability of orthodontic treatment, facial esthetics, and more. Myofunctional exercises strengthen the muscles to improve simple functions like breathing, swallowing, chewing and speaking. By making these behavior modifications, it can help to eliminate many impairments that we have grown accustomed to dealing with every day.
